Life on the NNU

Neonatal units specialise in looking after premature babies and sick full-term babies and St George’s nnu also provides specialist surgical services. Our unit currently has 39 cots divided into three different levels of care from neonatal intensive care (ICU) providing care for the sickest and most vulnerable babies, to high dependency (HDU) and the special care baby unit (SCBU), often referred to as ‘low dependency’.

Babies may be with us for just a few hours or days whilst they are checked or monitored or for many months if they are very sick or small. However long a family’s stay, or the outcome, every member of the team is dedicated to giving each baby and their family the best possible care.

You can find detailed information on our neonatal unit, its staff and all the services it provides by following this link here.

When a baby is admitted to the unit their family is given a copy of our unit guide which contains useful information about their stay on the nnu. You can download the unit guide here.
